Today's topic was coral reefs! We started the meeting by introducing ourselves to one another. We learned about different aspects of coral reefs, including coral bleaching and the ecosystems that the corals exist in. We looked at a live cam of the Georgia Aquarium and shared our previous knowledge and observations with each other. After we watched a video on coral bleaching and the causes of this phenomenon, we discussed how we can prevent disrupting the coral reef ecosystem. Following the video, we used an interactive to learn about the various species living amongst the coral reef. Then, all the kids participated in a game called "Who Am I", which prompts them with a clue and asks them to identify the organism. Through this application, we learned many different scientific terms. To fascinate the kids further, we played a National Geographic time lapse of coral bleaching. Afterwards, we watched a Bill Nye video about oceans. We ended our meeting by asking the kids for topics they are interested in doing during future meetings.
