Today's meeting was all about board games! We began the lesson with the kids telling us what their favorite board games are and why they enjoy them so much. Next, we learned about the first known board game, and it's called "Senet." Its origins go all the way back to 2620 BCE in the Predynastic and First Dynasty in Egypt. Although its rules aren't clear since it originated so long ago, we got to see what it looked like and try to guess how it was played. We also discussed three very popular, modern board games: "Monopoly," "Scrabble," and "Battleship." For each of those, we discussed who created them, when they were created, why they were created, and what the goals are for each. A fun fact about each of those games is that they all originate from some other game that was less popularized in the past. We also noticed a pattern that these board games all require a lot of strategy, and that's what makes them so fun! We concluded our meeting with a quiz that tested out the knowledge of the kids on board games in general.
