108: Today's Topic on K-2 ZoomKidz!

Updated: Mar 21, 2021

Today, we learned about Volcanoes Around the World! As a pre-assignment, we asked everyone if they have ever seen a volcano in person or on TV and to describe what they saw. We then discussed what a volcano is (technically!) versus our own definitions. At this point, the kids asked how volcanoes erupt and we talked about how the magma starts boiling and finally reaches the tip of the volcano and ERUPTS! We compared this to rice cooking in a pressure cooker, which all the kids thought was funny. After, we started exploring the top 20 known volcanoes around the world. We learned about Mount Fuji, Eyjafjallajökull, Mauna Loa and Kilauea, Mount Etna, Pico de Fogo, Pacaya, Mount Vesuvius, Villarica, Shishaldin, Mount Bromo, Stromboli, Mount Ruapehu, Cotopaxi, Isabela Island, Mount Mayon, Krakatoa, Agung, Poás, Mount St Helens, and Mount Yasur. Read more about each one in our slideshow! After our lesson, we played two buzzfeed quizzes (attached in slideshow) about nature and the elements. With a little extra time, we could have played some really cool volcano related games (attached in slideshow)!
