Today, we learned about classical musicians! We first asked the kids 1-2 classical musicians that they knew about. They said great answers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Frédéric Chopin! Before we could learn about these musicians, we first needed to learn some background knowledge about classical music. We first learned about 3 different periods of music: renaissance, baroque, and classical. We also listened to clips of each period of music. The kids loved the baroque and classical music, but didn't like renaissance too much. We then learned about different forms of classical music. We learned about symphonies, sonatas, and operas, and learned about characteristics for each. We listened to each type of classical music as well, and the favorite was the opera! Finally, we began to learn about different musicians. We learned about Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and Tchaikovsky! The kids loved learning about these different musicians as they had never heard about them before. We wrapped up the session by taking a fun quiz about what music genre you are based on the doughnut you create.
