21: Today's Topic on K-2 Zoomkidz

Today's topic was rainforests! We began the session by asking the kids what rainforest they would like to visit one day and why. We talked about what a rainforest is and then moved on to the animals commonly found in rainforests. The first animal we talked about was an Orangutan and we learned about its diet and that it is endangered. Then we learned about the Toucan and the size of its beak, its diet, and its predators. We watched a short video on it as well. The next animal was the Red-Eyed Tree Frog. We talked about the food it eats, its enemies, and its defense mechanisms. We also learned about the climate of rainforests. We learned that rainforests are very close to the equator which causes them to be hot and humid year-round. And we learned that rainforests get around 80 to 400 inches of rain per year. Then we talked about some of the most famous rainforests such as the Amazon Rainforest in South America, the Congo Rainforest in Africa, and the Daintree Rainforest in Australia. At the end of the session, we played a game where we decided where animals live in the rainforest and we took a Buzzfeed quiz that told us what animal we are most similar to.
