Today's topic was Marine Biology! We first asked the children what they thought were some examples of marine life. They were so excited to tell us all the marine life they remembered, and said different sea animals such as the clownfish, sharks, and other animals. We then started learning the definition of marine biology and shared some cool facts that many marine biologists know! To provide a deeper understanding, we watched a story time that explained more about marine biology in a kid-friendly manner. We stopped temporarily to test our memory skills and our prior knowledge on blue whales, the deepest ocean (hint: west coast), and the eating process for corals! After this, we dived right back into learning about some fascinating creatures of the ocean and sea! For example, the vampire squid, dumbo octopus, and leafy sea dragon! They were shocked with how crazy these different types of animals looked like. After we learned about these pets, we played a game to find out what animal they are! Last but not least, we played two personality quizzes to learn about our inner shark and planet protector personalities. They loved to see how their personalities matched up with a certain kind of shark! Finally to wrap up the class, we asked the kids what topics they would like to learn about in the future and answered any questions as well as asked for any additional thoughts/comments they had!
