In today's class we learned about flowers! We learned about the different types of flowers and the importance of them as well. We first asked the kids what types of flowers they knew. Then we continued on to talk about why flowers are so important to the world. They provide food not only for insects and bugs, as well as animals and humans too. And they make medicine! We then talked about where flowers can be usually found, which is everywhere! They can be found in polar regions as well as deserts and your very own backyard. We then showed them the number of types of flowers that are found in the world, which is 400,000! After talking about the background of flowers, we talked about a few types of very common flowers and why each one is so important. For instance, sunflowers provide seeds that we can eat as well as edible oil. Lavenders can be made into essential oils which can be used to calm people down, or for wellness. Other flowers end up being just symbols, like daises, which represent love and new beginnings. We then showed the kids 2 videos, one with different flowers blooming and growing, and another with an entire garden. Finally, we played game which let us guess what type of flowers that was shown to us. They learned a lot about why flowers are important, and can identify them a little bit better if they see any!
